The Cavaliers would be overjoyed to draft Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
The reason I’m getting a little frantic about draft odds positioning is that I think you see a pretty clear dropoff after the top six prospects in Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist, Robinson, Beal, Barnes, and Drummond. The 7th pick is a nightmare, having to make a tough decision between Jeremy Lamb, Austin Rivers, and Tyler Zeller, among other possibilities. If the Cavaliers can secure one of the talented wing trio (Bradley Beal, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, or Harrison Barnes), I think they would be overjoyed, and this team would take another huge step in competing and making it back to the playoffs. If you asked me right now, they’re all incredibly close, but I would rank them MKG, Barnes, and Beal in that order.
Couple of things I’d like to say about this. First, there might be a pretty clear dropoff after the top six prospects, but I think he’s got the top six prospects wrong. Clearly, anyone who knows anything about basketball would objectively come to the conclusion that Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Terrence Jones, Marquis Teague, Darius Miller and Doron Lamb are the best six prospects in the draft.
Second, I’m not totally convinced I’d like to see Gilchrist playing in Cleveland. It’s closer to Lexington than most NBA teams, but Gilchrist would have to play with a former Louisville Cardinal in Samardo Samuels AND a former Duke player in Kyrie Irving. That would just suck. Plus their owner Dan Gilbert, had Lebron James for 7 years and couldn’t win a championship.
I wouldn’t hate if Gilchrist went to the Cavaliers, but I would prefer to see him land in Sacramento, where he can team up with Demarcus Cousins and Chuck Hayes and dominate the Western Conference.
