Whether it was reading amazing stories like this one about Patterson and his family’s connection with Heather Durham, a 14-year-old Kentucky fan with cystic fibrosis, or watching Patterson throw down another monstrous dunk, Patrick Patterson was always doing something to make UK fans absolutely fall in love with him (we even sang happy birthday to him at the SEC Tournament). Pattersons commitment to Kentucky on April 17, 2007 ended one of the most talked about recruitments in UK history. Despite playing during two of the most tumultuous seasons in recent memory, which saw the 08-09 team miss the NCAA tournament for this first time in over 17 seasons, Patrick would have three very productive seasons, finishing his career with averages of 16.1ppg, 8.2rpg, and 1.6bpg. Even though Patterson was on a team that went to the NIT and he had to endure 2 seasons of Billy Gillespie, or whatever, Patterson ended his career on one of my favorite UK teams of all-time that went 35-3 and gained the #1 ranking during the regular season, won the SEC Tournament, and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Following that season, his junior year, Patterson declared for the NBA Draft and was selected 14th overall in the first round of the 2010 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. During his rookie season Patterson appeared in 52 games, starting 6, and averaged 6.3ppg and 3.9rpg. Patterson is now in his second season with the Houston Rockets.
